The song to knit along with in the Application video will be pre-selected by the organiser and downloadable here.
The official song for 2022 qualification round was from an aspiring metal band Palesloth. Here you can listen the song and sharpen your heavy metal knitting skills!

FILM YOUR DESTINY
Err, make a video of you knitting to the tunes of the song determined by the organiser
Find your ghettoblaster, play the song, press rec and knit like there’s no tomorrow. Or build a storyline and edit the song in afterwards. We don’t care. Anything goes as long as you put on a good show.
A few rules though:
• Maximum video length is 1 minute
• You need to use the song we’ve picked (any part of the song is okay)
• You must do knitting on the video.
• You yourself must perform on the video (extras and other actors are allowed too).
• The video must be uploaded to YouTube, so that you can provide us with a link to it.
• Age limit for the competition is 18.

Once the application period is over, a well-versed Heavy Metal Knitting jury will review all of the videos.
The semifinal jury rates the videos and chooses 12 contestants that deserve a place in the grand finals.

Didn’t get in to the finals? Bummer, but still: make sure to follow our channels and see the most awesome competition of the year 2024! The final event will also be streamed live
The first ever Heavy Metal Knitting World Championship was held in summer 2019 in Joensuu, Finland. The 2020 championship was postponed due to global pandemic and in summer 2021 the competition was held 100% online. In 2022 the event was finally held live again and gathered almost 2000 people to Joensuu Market Square to witness the live competition. The event was also streamed world wide. The 2023 event was canceled as the organiser decided to put all it’s interest on creating a spectacular event in summer 2024.
